Less than 24 hours in and I’m being bombarded with queries about Threads: What is it? What does it do? Do I need it?
Before you read on, let me just say…
Don’t worry, don’t panic, there’s no need to stress. Remember that your social media should target your clients and potential customers – and they won’t all be on Threads yet. And when / if they are, they’ll still be on the established platforms too.
What is it?
Quite simply, it’s Instagram’s version of Twitter.
What does it do?
It’s a new social media platform for posting your thoughts, ideas, useful information, photos, business updates, products, services, fun stuff – and also, if you choose, rubbish and nonsense.
You can publish posts up to 500 characters long (Twitter is only 280) and you can include links, photos and videos. In the same way that Twitter works, posts can be replied to, liked or shared by other people.
it’s ‘algorythmic’ feed means that posts will be displayed according to their engagement rather than as a chronological timeline. The more you like, the more you’ll see – and the same goes for your followers.
How do you get it?
From the App Store or Google Play.
How do you set it up?
This is supremely simple if you’re an Instagram user, as you can import your profile and follow all the same users.
Do I need it?
If it turns out your audience becomes active on Threads, you may want to consider setting up an account and creating a strategy.
I’m always happy to chat if you’re unsure about this or any aspect of your social media.
