Now that the two-week period of attempting and dropping New Year resolutions has passed, it’s time to take a more realistic view of the year ahead.
Setting a strategy involves a wider perspective than simply saying who you plan to sell to; it’s a time for proper direction and achievable goals. To set yourself on the right path, it’s a good idea to analyse who you sold to last year, to get a clear picture of your client base – which, surprisingly, may not be the same as your perceived target clients.
Giving a talk to a lovely networking group last week, I revealed that 80% of my clients are aged over 50. Most people in the group admitted that they don’t analyse their client base, but committed to doing so after my presentation.
So, 50+. What does this mean?
Well, for one thing, I believe it shows that more mature people feel comfortable that they’re working with someone who shares similar values, outlooks and professional qualities. My clients aren’t looking for a college leaver to handle their social media with TikTok style twerking, sweary rap music and a flurry of emojis. (All good, in the right circumstances.) They’re looking for an approach that’s more in line with their own aims.
Knowing your client demographic means you can market your products or services to your prospects far more effectively this year. You can ensure that:
- sponsored content is being correctly distributed,
- hashtags are more likely to poke your posts under the noses of the people you want to see them, and
- you won’t waste time or money marketing to an audience that’s less likely to buy from you.
If you’re aged over 50 and would like a 50 minute Zoom call to chat through and focus your social media strategy, simply drop me an email to take advantage of this very special rate…
