Yes, that was me featured in February’s Best Magazine!
I received so many lovely comments on the feature, and a couple of people have asked what led me to write such a candid exposé.
That sounds significantly more interesting than I am, but I’ll merrily take it!
Well, I’d intended the article to be inspirational, particularly for anyone with health issues, coming out of a long-term relationship or feeling like they’re hurtling at supersonic speed towards a landmark birthday they know they’re not going to like.
I say ‘anyone’ – it’s a women’s magazine so was primarily aimed at women, but I’ve had extremely positive feedback from men too; well, I suppose inspiration is genderless, and by posting across social media it was seen by an audience that wouldn’t normally buy or subscribe to Best.
I don’t profess to be a motivational speaker. I know plenty of fantastic ones though, if you’re looking for a recommendation! But, with my fairly reasonable maths skills (I can split a bill and deduct vat without too much trouble), I reckon I’ve encouraged and influenced quite a few thousand people over the years. That’s a fair amount of motivation…
Whether it’s been to use social media more effectively, promote one of the causes I champion (childhood stroke, for example), or simply to get off their bums and actually do something, it’s nice to know that I’ve made a difference.
If I’ve inspired you in any way I’d love to know about it. Or if you have any suggestions of things I can add to my list – fire away!! Someone once said, “No idea is silly.” (I may reserve the right to make a judgement call on that one…) Please feel free to share your thoughts!
